What to use it for, and what not
GetYourGuide has to be judged in two parts, because in Tuscany it does two different jobs.
- Day trips and experiences: its home ground. At our last check the most-reviewed trip, Pisa, Siena and San Gimignano with lunch from Florence, averaged 4.6 from about 11,700 reviews, and free cancellation up to 24 hours before is the general rule.
- Entry tickets: here it's a reseller like any other. The Leaning Tower of Pisa, the OPA SI PASS and Siena Cathedral cost a few euros more than from the official bodies.
GetYourGuide is also a partner of this guide: if you book through our links we earn a commission. It doesn't change our verdict: we apply the same criteria, and the same comparisons with the official price, as we do to platforms that aren't partners.
Who's behind it
GetYourGuide Deutschland GmbH is based in Berlin, at Sonnenburger Straße 73, and has been trading since 2009. It doesn't organise tours: it sells them as an intermediary for the supplier, meaning the agency or guide who actually runs them. This matters when something goes wrong, because delays, coaches and guides depend on the local operator, while refunds and support go through the platform.

On entry tickets the mark-up ranges from €2 to €5.50, depending on the product and the time of year. In return, many Siena tickets come with free cancellation up to 24 hours before, which the official channel doesn't offer on the same terms: according to the information available, the Opera della Metropolitana keeps a cancellation fee until a few days before and after that doesn't refund. Either way, check the terms shown on each listing.

When it's worth it and when it isn't
It's worth it if you're booking an organised day trip, because the do-it-yourself alternative by train and bus struggles to cover three towns in a day; if the official Tower slots are sold out or the Opera isn't taking online payments; or if in Siena you want to be able to cancel up to the day before.
It isn't worth it if the official site has space on the date you need: in Pisa you pay less and can still move your time up to 2 hours before. Nor is it worth paying for an audio-guide bundle for the OPA SI PASS, which already includes the smartphone audio guide.
Tuscany day trips from Florence
On day trips GetYourGuide's advantage is the sheer volume of reviews. Besides the classic Pisa–Siena–San Gimignano, at our last check the Chianti winery tour had 4.5 from over 11,600 reviews and the Cinque Terre trip with an optional hike 4.9 from about 6,000.
With that many reviews you can read the recent one- and two-star ones and see what actually goes wrong, for example a late start at the meeting point or an ageing coach. The flip side is that GetYourGuide doesn't always make it obvious who runs the trip: look for the supplier's name on the listing before you pay.
One detail that matters: on several trips the climb up the Leaning Tower is optional or not included, and sometimes the title already says so. If you want to go up, check the listing.

The voucher is on your phone, in the app. Free cancellation up to 24 hours before applies unless the listing says otherwise; with “reserve now, pay later” you hold your place without being charged straight away.

GetYourGuide reviews: the overall picture
At our last check GetYourGuide had about 3.9 on Trustpilot from about 56,000 reviews: 68% five-star, but also 19% one-star, the highest share among Tiqets, Headout, Viator, Musement and Civitatis. On the App Store, again at our last check, the app had 4.9 from about 324,000 ratings. The gap between the two figures says that customers are happy as long as the tour runs smoothly, but when something goes wrong the way the problem is handled often disappoints.
The recurring complaints:
- ageing coaches;
- delays at the meeting point, or transfers that don't turn up;
- being refused entry at attractions;
- rigid refunds outside the 24-hour window.
The Colosseum case
For Colosseum tickets, Italy's competition authority gave GetYourGuide the highest fine among the platforms, €5.6 million: base-price tickets were only put on sale inside bundles with added services, and an €18 official ticket appeared from €36.90. The Lazio regional administrative court rejected the company's appeal. It's a Roman affair, but the lesson applies in Pisa and Siena too: before buying an entry ticket, look at the official price.
Who it suits, and the alternatives
GetYourGuide is for you if you want a ready-organised day trip from Florence, with plenty of reviews to read and the option to cancel up to the day before. It isn't the best choice for a single entry ticket when the official site has space.
The 4 out of 5 rewards the day trips specifically: 24-hour cancellation as a platform rule, “pay later”, prices in euros and thousands of reviews on every classic itinerary. It doesn't reach 5 because of the mark-up on entry tickets, the share of one-star reviews and because you have to hunt for the trip's operator on the listing. Tiqets, with entry tickets at similar prices but non-refundable and day trips with few reviews, stops at 3.
- Tiqets: handy for entry tickets, stricter on refunds.
- Viator: a marketplace with the widest choice, prices in dollars.
- Civitatis: strong for Spanish speakers, 48-hour cancellation on the classic trip.
